If I were to guess, I’d guess that people that love to travel enjoy the actual act of traveling just as much as being at the destination that is being traveled to. Passing through airports, jumping in cabs, riding the bus, flying on the plane, moving about train stations, etc. When my wife and I have traveled together, there is always a sense of excitement in these transitional moments.
Now, there are the times when you’re pressed for time, and that can be a little stressful. I remember more than a few instances of running through an airport or train station and making it there with less than a minute to spare! But many times, these transportation experiences are a part of the great memories of a trip!
Like many train stations, the Atocha train station in Madrid has a magical feeling to it. It’s the feeling of embarking upon a journey. One of the things I’ve noticed about la Estación de Atocha is the contrast between the hustle and bustle on the inside, and the panoramic calm felt when descending the escalators onto the main platform outside.
This watercolor painting is of that panoramic calm!
