How to Buy Art (for normal, everyday people)

How do people buy art? There are a myriad of ways, but you usually only hear of the conventional or multi-millionaire variety:

  • Art galleries
  • Art fairs

  • Museum purchases
  • High-end auctions (Sotheby’s, Christie’s, etc.)

But are there other options for normal, everyday people? Of course!

  • Online
  • From an artist set up on the street (usually found in more touristy areas)
  • Art student shows
  • Open artist studios
  • From an artist you know personally
  • Commissioning an artist to create something unique for you

These options can be fun and spontaneous (or fun and planned!). There is no right or wrong way to buy art. And when the art piece settles into your home, your walls will sing with joy, and your spirit will be happy. There really is nothing like illuminating a bare space with a piece of art that speaks to your inner being!
