“A Place to Call Home” – 36″ x 48″ Acrylic Painting on Canvas

The Importance of Home

This large painting was inspired by a photograph taken at a Loudoun Habitat for Humanity home dedication, and now hangs in the Loudoun Habitat for Humanity office in Leesburg, Virginia!

For many people, home is a part of our self-definition, and where we grow up often retains an important status in our minds. When I look at the boys momentously cutting the ribbon to their new home in this painting that I completed this week, I think of these words:

“By wisdom a house is built, And by understanding it is established; And by knowledge the rooms are filled With all precious and pleasant riches.” – Proverbs 24:3-4

“My home is the home of peace. My home is the home of joy and delight. My home is the home of laughter and exaltation. Whosoever enters through the portals of this home, must go out with gladsome heart. This is the home of light; whosoever enters here must become illumined. This is the home of knowledge; the one who enters it must receive knowledge. This is the home of love; those who come in must learn the lessons of love; thus may they know how to love each other.” – ‘Abdu’l-Bahá, son of Bahá’u’lláh.
