Water is Life Painting – Dakota Access Pipeline

The U.S. Army has cancelled a planned environmental study for the Dakota Access Pipeline and will grant the final permit needed after an order from President Trump to expedite the project. This is a great example of capitalism at all costs and money over people and over the health of the environment. Sure, it will supposedly reduce our dependence on foreign oil, and will transport thousands of barrels of crude oil to U.S. consumers, just like the Keystone XL Pipeline. I doubt it will reduce anyone’s costs, at least in any significant manner. Why not focus on renewable clean energy sources, which would also reduce our dependence on foreign oil and not be as damaging to the Earth? I think it is because the oil industry is the 2nd largest lobbying group in Washington, after the pharmaceutical industry. So the money interests are very entrenched. Trump’s presidential memorandum on the Dakota Access Pipeline is addressed to the secretary of the Army, as well as to the secretary of state and the secretary of the interior. Trump’s secretary of state nominee, Rex Tillerson, was formerly the CEO of ExxonMobil, a company that would reap enormous profit from exploitation of Canadian tar sands oil. Trump’s energy secretary nominee, Rick Perry, was until recently on the board of Energy Transfer Partners, the owner of the Dakota Access Pipeline. My family history in this country can be traced back to before it was even a country, and I don’t think this is making our country ‘great again’.
