Outside of the Womb

Yesterday morning I finished a pencil portrait drawing of my son from either his 1st or 2nd day of life (I say it was the day he was born, my wife says it was the day after!) Either way, he’s such an angel and looked so peaceful laying on our bed, in the very spot he was born!

Arriving to the World

This drawing is of my son on the very day he was born. We had a home birth and he came out right on our bed, just as the sun was rising! It was magical. I thank God for my wife, our midwife team, pediatric chiropractor, and doula. Their guidance and care made for the best labor we could have asked for (of course, that’s so easy for me to say, but it did go really well).

Portrait Painting of my Son at the Beach

A few weeks ago my wife, son and I went to Florida for a few days, and it was the first time our son saw the ocean! He was actually asleep when pulled in to the parking lot, so we carried him out in his car seat and sat on the beach, about 30 ft from the water, listening to the sounds of the waves, and watching the sun slowly make its way down the horizon. After a few minutes, our son calmly woke up and gazed out upon the ocean. It was serene. Eventually, we got him out of his seat and made our way into the water (holding him above the water, of course!).

This oil portrait is going to be a photo of him being held over the water, gazing out into the sea.

As with all of my portraits, it starts with meticulous measuring and drawing! As this progresses, you’ll see it turn from a simple drawing to a colorful and lively oil portrait!

Birth of our Son – Baby Painting in Progress of my Nephew

As I wrote on Loudoun Baby Artist yesterday, this past month has been super busy for my wife and I, what with midwife appointments and preparing for the birth of our son, who was born over a week ago now! We had a home-birth, and he was born in our bedroom with the morning rise of the sun. Thanks be to God. Now I know what everyone meant when they said we’d be tired. Good grief!

Anyhow, I’ve been working on this painting of my nephew, which I started before our son was born. Now that our son is here, I’m trying to finish up this painting so that I can do a painting of our baby boy!

Here is a photo of the progression of the oil portrait of my nephew. It’s getting close to being finished! My sister will be in for a surprise when she receives this in the mail.
