This scene is from a long, warm evening in laid-back Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica. Still a few more layers of paint to add, but the “bones” of the painting are set!
Córdoba, Spain Painting
For lovers of Mediterranean art and Spanish paintings! This oil painting is based on a photo I took in Córdoba, Spain.
Hanging flowers, wrought-iron balconies, whitewashed walls…I love it.
If you ever travel to southern Spain and want to go to the renowned Costa del Sol beaches, may I suggest an alternative to the bustling areas around Málaga?
Nerja is nestled into the east end of the Costa del Sol.
Beautiful cliffs, turquoise sea, Spanish cuisine, beaches, what more could you want?
When my wife and I were there, we stayed in a very small village next to Nerja named Maro, and took day trips to the beaches of Nerja.
I’d been thinking I wanted to paint something with a pop of red color in it.
So I went through some photos I have, and came across one that I took in Ibiza, Spain. The shutter and door colors in the original photo are green, so I decided to switch them to red in the painting.
Sao Rafael is a small village in the southern, coastal Algarve province of Portugal. There’s a nice seafood restaurant next to a small beach, and there are many cliffs to explore around. This house is one of the few in the area that are dotted along the beautiful coastline!

Chefchaouen is the majestic Moroccan city famous for its blue-shaded buildings. This painting is of a photo I took on a sunny day while visiting Chefchaouen.
Imagine yourself on a sunny day in the Mediterranean region, exploring winding narrow streets and stairways with fresh flowers in bloom!
The image from this painting is from the Old Town section of Ibiza, Spain. My wife and I visited there in 2004 and then took our honeymoon to Ibiza in 2009!

While in Tenerife, I was lucky enough to stay in an ocean view hotel with a pathway in front that meanders along the lush landscape high above the ocean!
Uvita, Costa Rica has one of my favorite beaches in that country, as I’ve written about before. Uvita is on the Pacific side of Costa Rica. In this painting, the morning waves are washing up on shore with the sunlight illuminating the glow of the water, sand and palm trees.
This painting measures 10″ in width and 8″ in height, and is painted on gallery-wrapped canvas (no frame necessary!).
Corcovado National Park lies on the southwest tip of Costa Rica and is the most biodiverse place in the western hemisphere! While a Peace Corps Volunteer in Costa Rica, I hiked through Corcovado near the end of my service. After a full day’s hike through the jungle, streams and rivers, you arrive to the wild and pristine beaches.
Imagine the warming rays of the Pacific sun shining upon this tropical stretch of Corcovado beach when you look at this painting hanging in your home or office!
