When my wife and I were on vacation in Sevilla, Spain, a few weeks ago, we saw several boutique shops full of colorful flamenco dresses. I imagine they all do a great business during the time leading up to La Feria de Abril (April Fair)! La Feria de Abril is a huge annual event held in Sevilla, known for its music, dancing, food, men dressed in suits and women dressed in flamenco dresses.
This last week, my wife and I took a vacation to beautiful Sevilla, Spain, for the 10 year anniversary of us meeting there. The city just lends itself to artistic inspiration. After a few days there, I wished I had brought my sketchbook and pencils! Since I didn’t bring them, I instead made do with a hotel note pad and a ball-point pen. Here are some quick ink sketches I did while in Sevilla:
The bullfight….controversial, yes, but an event that is woven within the fabric of Spanish culture. My wife went to a bullfight several years ago in Sevilla and didn’t enjoy it, but I have to say, I do appreciate the flair that goes into it. I’m also fascinated by the elegant dress and bright colors of the bullfighter’s clothing, and enjoy the color contrasts between the sandy ground, the black bull, and the matador!
